  1. What is captioning?
  2. Captioning is the display of text on a screen, visually representing the audio, providing additional or interpretive information to viewers who wish to access it. Captions can be produced in a number of ways; online - through respeaking or stenocaptioning - and offline; using typing and specialised captioning software.. Ai-Live uses respeaking to deliver online captions.

  3. What is respeaking?
  4. A captioner uses voice recognition technology and the technique of respeaking to create live captioning. This means that the audio material from a classroom needs to be repeated – or ‘respoken’ – by the captioner, and the text is then produced by the captioner’s specially-trained speech recognition program. To view other types of caption production – visit the Ai-Media website.

  5. How does Ai-Live™ work?
  6. 1.A teacher in a classroom wears a lapel microphone. Through the microphone, the teacher’s speech is then relayed over the internet to a remote captioner.

2.The captioner respeaks what the teacher says into software that instantaneously translates it into text.

3.The captions are then transmitted over the internet back to the classroom to the deaf/hearing impaired student’s laptop. The student receives the text as captions of on their laptop within seconds.
